The Pastor as Public Theologian: “Preacher of Truth and not of conveniences”

God is not a God of pantomime or of staging. His fundamental creation is a set of verbal revelation and the human body of Jesus Christ, the word made flesh.

The preacher's job is not to quote the Bible as in a lecture full of pragmatic advice, but to expound the biblical text, apply it, and exhort people to live according to it, in union with Christ and by the power of the Spirit.

The Pastor as Public Theologian: “Preacher of Truth and not of conveniences”

“The pastor, seeing fully what his predecessors knew only as type and shadow, expresses not what he himself thinks, but what God thinks.

Like the prophets of old, the pastor does not call people to distress and anxiety, but to repentance, which corrects the course of the world and renews the soul.

Babylon disappears and Persia no longer exists, but the world is still ruled by dark forces that wish to enslave God's people.

Conclusion

The pastor, as someone dominated and carried away by biblical doctrine and theological truth, assumes the mantle of the prophet, appealing to the church to remember the covenant and to be transformed through the grace that emanates from that covenant.

All of this is a ministry of words—not mere words, but words imbued with divine authority. The pastoral ministry of preaching is the ministry of God's truth: the way and life of Jesus Christ.
